Massage FAQs
What is your specialty?
Therapeutic Massage or Deep Tissue Massage is the TYPE of
massage I specialize in.
The longer, more complete
answer, is that I specialize in making you feel pampered, taken care of,
heard, paid attention to, and that you're in good hands, no matter
what's going on for you that day.
What can I expect?
I
tailor your session
based on what you need that particular time we meet. I
combine a variety of massage techniques with all the other factors that
most other massage therapists don't consider at all. I make sure the
environment, the temperature of the room and the table are perfect for
you; I use aromatherapy not just in the room but also therapeutically to
help your mind relax (or be stimulated, whatever you choose), your body
be soothed (or energized), and your spirit be uplifted (or calmed). I
even take thoughtful care to select the perfect music, type of sheets
and blanket, and lighting.
What makes you different?
Because I
am also a trained and certified life coach, health and wellness coach,
holistic nutrition counselor, and an Ayurvedic practitioner, I go deeper
than musculoskeletal pain. If
what's ailing you is physical; I can help with that for sure. If your
physical issue could be relieved with different foods, with
aromatherapy, with particular stretches or exercises, or if perhaps some
lifestyle habit seems to be contributing to what you're seeing me for,
you can be assured that I will use all of my training--not just
massage--to identify the source of the problem and give you
recommendations to relieve pain and suffering and get you on the road to
optimal health.
In other
words, you can be sure that when you come see me, it's not for just a
backrub!
I specialize in creating
an entire mind/body/spirit experience for you.
What is the purpose of massage
therapy?
Massage
therapy is one way to release chronic tension, prevent injury, get
mental clarity, and restore proper body mechanics and structural
stability. It is also a great tool for increasing your body
awareness, which helps you to recognize (and thereby improve) postural
and practice habits that affect your muscular health on a daily basis.
From a self-care point of
view, connecting to your body from the neck down empowers you and allows
you to feel what it's like to feel relaxed, to feel good, to feel
healthy. When you become more "in tune" or more in harmony with what it
feels like to feel good, then you'll know much sooner when something
doesn't feel quite right, and you can take action sooner.
I started doing massage
at the tender age of 19 and have spent many years helping people relax,
reduce stress, and get in touch with what's going on in their bodies
that's affected by what's going on in their lives. During your massage,
you can learn stress reduction techniques to use between sessions to
improve your physical, mental, and emotional health.
Tailor your massage
appointment to address what your body, mind, and spirit need during that
time.

What if I have questions?
Please do give
me a call and ask me! I want you to feel comfortable,
so if you have questions, let's talk first. Most people who do
this do end up setting up an appointment, loving their massage, coming
back regularly, and recognizing how their health improves because their
stress (which contributes to disease) is greatly reduced.
How do I get started?
Give me a call at
703-912-2901. I'll set you
up with an appointment as soon as possible. Then
download our
Client History Form.
Please fill it out ahead of time and bring it with you so we can spend
more hands-on time.
What are the
benefits of massage?
Research has
shown many benefits to the healing power of touch.
Massage also speeds
recovery from work-related and performance-related injuries such as carpal tunnel
syndrome, tenosynovitis, and sciatica.
Massage aids in the relief
of back pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, insomnia, fatigue, circulatory problems, and tension.
And because stress is indicated in many health issues (diabetes, heart issues,
high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity), massage can be used as a
preventative to help keep you healthier longer.
